Your Craft Business Success - How to start that tsunami of traffic

Traffic to your information website will start as a small ball of snow rolling down the hill. As it rolls it will build in size and momentum. Faster and Faster, growing and becoming huge, it will be unstoppable.

The first thing to do to get that ball rolling is to target your pages with winning keywords.

Now, winning keywords aren't just words we think will apply to our website and just put them on. We need words that MORE people are looking for and LESS websites have. This is how we win those words on the search engines. I run the keywords I use in a feature called 'Brainstormer' which is a tool that is part of the package I use to create this information website you are on (the Free-Craft-Patterns.com).

Take a look at the following picture. This is a screen shot of the program I use.

I've typed in the word 'Knitting' and this program bought me 800 results. In other words, 800 keywords. From there I prune this list and keep the ones which are the winners.

Keep the winners - delete the losers

Do you see the first word in that picture which says 'knitting'? This tells me the Value Demand (how many people are searching for that keyword) is 54,112. And then it tells me the Real Supply (how many websites already have that words) is 164,221.

Do you see that there are more websites that have this keyword than people that are looking for that keyword?

Well, then I won't use it. I will delete this keyword as it will be very hard to get my page listed high on the search engines.

Imagine only working with winners

For your craft, you will type in what your craft is to find winning keywords. If your craft is making jewelry then you will do a search on 'jewelry'. If it's crocheting, you will type in 'crocheting'. Imagine getting 500+ winning keywords and only using those. Do you know what happens? You have put in the first steps to start that tsunami of traffic.

You are targeting keywords the way search engines like and they will reward you for it. As time goes by, your pages will appear higher and higher up the search results.

And then you do something else, equally as important...

As I'm building each page, I run it through the second button you see. It's called 'Analyze it'. This button runs through that page and tells me if I've placed the keywords in the right places and if I've added the right number of keywords. This is a life saver let me tell you :) This also is part of the package I use to create this website.

The mistake most crafters make is...

I used to make this mistake as well. Don't worry. I use to create websites without knowing what is going on with keywords. The result was that my pages would not appear anywhere near high at search engine results. So my websites died due to lack of traffic.

How to continue that ball going down the hill - this will only take 5 minutes

After you create your pages, then start submitting your website to directories. Search engines love when they see links coming into your website and directories are one of the places we submit our website. In the section about how to promote your craft business I've given you some techniques you can use to promote your information website. Directories are different. Submit your domain name once and then forget about them. It only takes 5 minutes to do this.

Some tips not to get into trouble with directories

Avoid this: There are places that offer to send your link to 30,000+ directories for a small fee. DON'T pay for these. Google goes after them so you may get into trouble. Plus, they are crap. There are not that many directories anyway!

Avoid this: There are directories that require that you include a link from your site to theirs before they list you (this is called a reciprocal link). Don't choose to link with these because linking from your website to a directory doesn't provide your visitors with any benefit. (Tip: Only link to other websites within your niche which you believe provide value to your visitors).

Avoid this: There are directories that require that you pay them for a listing. Again avoid this. You can get many backlinks by promoting your website, so paying for a link to a directory isn't worth much.

It's not complicated

Building a successful craft business that will grow and get massive amounts of traffic isn't complicated. It's just a few steps to take every day in order to create a power machine that will make you a monthly income and continue to do so.
