Embroidery French Knots

Used for filling in centers of flowers, dot-markings on leaves, etc. Bring up the thread to the right side of the material, and hold it down under the thumb. Twist the thread three or four times (according to the size of knot required) round the needle between the thumb and linen, still holding down the thread.

Put the needle back to the wrong side about two threads behind the place where it came out a first, and bring it out at the next place where the knot is required. Always hold down the thread as long as possible in order that the knot may be quite tight.
