Embroidery Frilling or Whipping Stitch

embroidery stitches

-

A species of loose overcasting which can be drawn up into a frill. It is usually worked on soft pliable material such as mull-muslin or lawn. Begin from the right, and use the left thumb to form a roll of the edge of the material as the work proceeds. Work about half a dozen stitches and then draw up the thread. The stitch is suitable for frills for embroidered muslin cushion covers, small collars, etc.
