Knitted Mittens Material - knitting silk.
Cast on 85 stitches on three needles, knit once round plain, then knit in
ribs (of three stitches plain and two seamed) 60 rows. Then kniting plain, take
3 stitches to commen the thumb, widen one stitch each side of the thumb, on
every fourth row, till you have 40 rows.
One stitch each side of thumb should be seamed. You will have 27 stitches for
thumb, not including the two seamed stitches, which belong to the hand. Put
the stitches for thumb on a string.
With the remaining 82 stitches knit 48 rows
plain.
Next row narrow every seventh stitch, then 7 rows plain. Narro every
sixth stitch, 6 rows plain.
Narrow every fifth stitch, 5 rows plain. Every fourth stitch, 4 rows plain.
Narrow once on each needle every row until only four stitches are left on each
needle, bind off.
For thumb, of this knitted mittens pattern, take the stitches on three needles, knit 31 rows plain, then narrow
once on each needle every row, until all the stitches are narrowed off.
