Rug hooking patterns: Another play rug has a center crocheted in stripes of tan and dark brown with the border in navy blue and scarlet. The joining are worked in black and the alphabet along the border is cross-stitched in tans, greens tec. The rug measures 1 1/4 yards square.

Materials: Corticelli Knitola Fingering Yarn, 4 balls Tan Brown, 4 balls Dark Brown, 2 balls Navy, 2 Balls Cardinal, 1 ball Black, one pair no.7 knitting needles.

The alphabet can be worked with odds and ends of yarn from the workbaset as only a small quantity of each color is needed.

Instructions: With Tan make chain 33 inches long and work 40 rows in s.c., taking up both sides of the stitch. Make another strip like this and in the same way 2 in Seal Brown.

Border: Make 2 strips Navy Blue in plain Afghan st. 20 inches wide and 2 strips in Scarlet 20 inches long. Fasten strips and border together with Brier st. in Black.

Edge: With black make s.c. on edge, ch. , make 1 d.c. around the s.c. just made, skip 1 st. and fasten into edge with s.c; repeat all around.

With colored wool work alphabet in cross stitch all around the border.
