Starting a Home Craft Business
After years of selling my craft items through craft stores, I started getting a little tired of the constant auction monitoring and the fees were just about killing me. I was looking around to create something different. Something that would still make me income on the internet like I so enjoyed but something that would be easier and that I wouldn't have to constantly monitor.
As I looked around other websites to get ideas, I discovered that I would love to have something that I could fill with information I love and share it with others. So the idea of a craft information website was born.
The next problem I had back then was that I was a complete novice with building websites. Because I knew that a lot of websites hardly get any traffic and thus make no income, before leaving my comfortable income through craft auction sites, I needed to make sure the solution I found was the best one for me.
Through my research I found site builder. It promised to teach me step by step (through videos) how to set up a web business. From looking at the videos, I discovered how to properly set up a page so it can rank high on the search engines. I was given tools where I could run a word and it showed me a list of the best words to use (those that have high demand). With the guidance of these tools I selected the best words to give my business the best chance of getting listed highly on search engines and get traffic to come in.
It worked.
And the great thing about it was that it didn't take long. Within the first month, I had traffic coming in and each month it grew.
I remember fondly those days when I was setting up my website. It was such joy to wake up each day with anticipation to create another page, use the tools to easily put it on the internet, and see it live, ready to share it with the world.
Within 6 months the income I made through auction sites was replaced by this information website. Looking through the forums I got access to with my subscription I discovered many more ways of making money (which I hadn't even realized).
Would I go back to auction sites?
No. After the initial setup of this business, the traffic kept growing, and it continues to do so. A few months back I was working on other projects and just left this website to run on its on. When I logged in to check my traffic stats I was surprised that even without doing any work on this website, it still works like tireless workhorse on its own.
That's the beauty of having a craft information website.
